On July 13, 2005, during a military training exercise at Fort Campbell, KY, Pfc Gregory Wertz was fatally wounded in preparation for service to the nation that he loved. He was taught and understood full well the importance of preparation, and on that day the Lord was prepared to receive Greg unto Himself.

Greg was the son of Larry (Paula) Wertz of Wauseon, and Ann Wertz of Pataskala. His brother Chris resides in Pataskala. Volker Konig of Frankfort, Germany, and Camilo Valero of Bogota, Colombia, we're close friends.

Greg was a 2004 graduate of Napoleon High School. He was a motor transport operator in the United States Army and was a member of the Alpha Company 526th Brigade Support Battalion and served with the 101st Airborne Division.

He proudly chose to serve and was well liked by the soldiers he served with.
