Lucas Todd Pyeatt is the son of Cindy and Scott Pyeatt of West Chester, Ohio and the younger brother of Emily Nicole Smalley, her husband Jon, nephew Travis and niece Makenna of Liberty Township, Ohio. Luke was born at RAF Lakenheath, UK. He graduated from Woodside HS in Newport News, Virginia and attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. In 2006 he was called to serve a two-year church mission in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Luke earned his Eagle, Globe and Anchor in July 2006 at MCRD Perris Island. He attended Russian language training at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California and cryptology technical training at Goodfellow AFB, Texas. Upon completion he reported to Charlie Company, 2nd Radio Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Luke deployed to Afghanistan as team leader of SIGINT Support Team 6 in January of 2011. Luke‘s team was assigned to the Kajaki District in Helmand Province. The team was mission-tasked shortly after their arrival, and he volunteered for their first patrol. Luke was killed in action on that patrol.

Along with receiving the Purple Heart, Luke was awarded the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation medal and the Combat Action ribbon. He was awarded the Director of National Intelligence Medal of Valor by director James Clapper and is named on the National Security Agency Wall of Honor. Luke is now with his brothers and sisters at Arlington National Cemetery.
