Nicholas Henry Olivas was born on February 7, 1992, in Hamilton, Ohio. He attended St. Julie’s Grade School and Fairfield High School where he was a member of the Wrestling Team. He graduated in 2010 and enlisted in the US Army as a paratrooper in a cavalry/infantry regiment. Nicholas Olivas attended training and Airborne school at Fort Benning, Ga. He married his wife in July 2011 and was present for the birth of his son, Connor on January 2012. He trained in the Afghani language to serve as an interpreter. In February 2012, Nick deployed to Afghanistan. Olivas was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. He was killed in Zharay when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. Cpl. Olivas, US Army, was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Parachutist Badge.
